Related Projects

Several large scale national and international projects have recently been lauchned aimed at improving and harmonizing Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) standards around the globe. This page serves as a link base for these projects and initiatives that are related to SHARE. They are explained in more detail by clicking on the corresponding tabs in the menu.

  • The Global Earthquake Model (GEM) is a public/private partnership initiated and approved by the Global Science Forum of the OECD-GSF. GEM aims to be the uniform, independent and open access standard to calculate and communicate earthquake hazard and risk worldwide. SHARE constitutes one of GEM's Regional Programmes in Europe.
  • The Earthquake Model of the Middle East (EMME) is a privately sponsored international project aiming at the assessment of seismic hazard, the associated risk in terms of structural damages, casualties and economic losses in the Middle East region.

EU-Projects that either support(ed) SHARE actions or use SHARE data and results:

  • The EU-FP7 project  SYNER-G stands for Systemic Seismic Vulnerability and Risk Analysis for Buildings, Lifeline Networks and Infrastructures Safety Gain and is a Regional Programme for the European region.
  • The EU-FP7 Project  GEISER (Geothermal Engineering Integrating Mitigation of Induced Seismicity in Reservoirs) started at the beginning of the year 2010 and will last 3.5 years. The project will address several of the major challenges the development of geothermal energy is facing, including the mitigation of induced seismicity to an acceptable level.
  • EU-FP7 Prject PERPETUATE intends to develop European Guidelines for the evaluation and mitigation of seismic risk to cultural heritage assets, with innovative techniques for the seismic strengthening of historical buildings and the preservation of unmovable artworks.
  • NERA is a follow-up of NERIES [see below] and is aimed at creation of a European research infrastructure for earthquake risk assessment and mitigation. NERA is carried out within the Framework of FP7 and has activities focused on networking, joint research, transnational access and service access.
  • The Network of Research Infrastructures for European Seismology (NERIES)  is an Integrated Infrastructure Initiative (I3) project in the Sixth Framework Program (FP6) of the European Commission, aiming at networking the European seismic networks, improving access to data, allowing access to specific seismic infrastructures and pursuing targeted research developing the next generation of tools for improved service and data analysis.
  • Seismic Early Warning for Europe (SAFER) is an EC-FP6 cooperation project, is to develop tools that can be used by disaster management authorities for effective earthquake early warning in Europe and, in particular, the densely populated cities. The tools are expected to be user-friendly, have the maximum possible portability, and to be in accordance with state-of-the-art research.
